Mima's Closes Ridgefield, Mall Locations, But Still Serving In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. – Mima’s Meatballs & More, a casual eatery that elevated the humble Italian treat to true foodie status, will be closing its Ridgefield location.

Robert Atkinson, the owner of Mima's Meatballs & More, says he will be closing the restaurant's Ridgefield and Danbury Fair Mall locations. Mima's on Mill Plain Road in Danbury is still going strong, he said.

According to a Facebook post by owner Robert Atkinson, Mima’s also will shut its pop-up restaurant in the Danbury Fair Mall.

But Mima’s fans, fear not! The restaurant still will be dishing out the tasty orbs of chopped meat – not to mention homemade pasta, chicken parmesan, fried pizza dough and zucchini lasagna – at its original Danbury spot at 18 Mill Plain Road.

It also still will deliver the marinara sauce-laden goodies to hungry Ridgefield folks, the Facebook post said.

The Mill Plain Road location opened in 2013 and on Aug. 1, Mima’s will celebrate its third anniversary.

The mall pop-up eatery opened in 2015, and the Ridgefield spot just this past January.

Atkinson, who did not explain in his Facebook post why the two locations were closing, has a background in fine dining.

He worked at Ruth Chris Steakhouse in Tarrytown, N.Y., for many years.

However, he later gravitated toward the “fast casual” trend, where high-end foods are served in informal settings.

According to a recent piece on Atkinson that appeared in the Daily Voice, he especially prides himself on being able to turn orders for the fresh and homemade food around in five to seven minutes.

Mima’s has nearly a dozen different kinds of meatballs, ranging from gluten-free to Thai.

Among its more popular permutations are the “Angry Meatball” smothered in arrabiata sauce and the Buffalo-style mac ‘n cheese wedge.
