And oh, what a cake it is. Created by New City, N.Y.'s Caked Up Cafe, it highlighted some of what the popular Stamford diner is known for -- pancakes, donuts and lots of gooey, sugary concoctions (have you seen their freak shakes?). (The cinnamon sugar donuts that they make themselves are a story in themselves.)

According to the restaurant's website, the diner opened in November 1987 and has undergone several renovations since then. Mainly the family-owned eatery sets out to redefine the category of restaurants known as diners by incorporating the authentic entrees of the classic diner and the innovative cuisine of fine dining.

Elm Street Diner is at 463 Elm St., 203-325-1141.
