The evening includes a benefit party -- including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food, compliments of Michael Bick's Some Things Fishy catering -- the film screening, the Q&A, and a second reception in the theater lobby.
Tickets are $25: buy them online, here. Guests are also asked to bring cans of wet food or bags of dry food, for DAWS.
"Dogs on the Inside" follows the relationships between abused or abandoned dogs and prison inmates who train them, trying to give them a second chance at a better life.
A Toronto Star review puts it this way:
A burly, philosophical prisoner named Candido tears up when he explains what it means to take care of a stray named Sam.
'Some of these dogs have been in the street, they’ve been abused ... hurt, beat-up, starved ... . I can relate to 'em because Sam was left behind and I went through that myself as a kid ... . Some of us have been through a lot ourselves.'
Filmmakers Brean Cunningham's and Douglas Seirup's approach is straightforward, but the prisoners' desire to make a better life for the dogs -- and themselves -- is what will stick in your memory and your heart.
The G-rated film has an 87 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The benefit will run from 6-10 p.m. at Bethel Cinema, 269 Greenwood Ave. It's presented by FilmFest52, and the party and reception are compliments of Some Things Fishy.
