Christine Howlett, music director and conductor of the Danbury Concert Chorus, will be accompanied by pianist Max Vladimiroff.

Works by composers such as Samuel Barber, William Billings and Aaron Copland will be featured on the program.

Music by living composers Nurit Hirsch, Eric Barnum, Ola Gjeilo and Dan Forrest will also be performed.

“Every Tuesday night at the Danbury Music Centre, about 75 singers come together for two hours to learn beautiful and challenging repertoire," said Howlett. "The singers work collectively and supportively to make this music come alive. We grapple with difficult pitches and rhythms; we work to improve vocal technique, our tongues twist in learning to sing in foreign languages, all with the goal of exploring and presenting the music to the best of our ability."

Howlett added that the concert is "named in honor of the chorus members who dedicate themselves to singing together every week.”

Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. The concert is sponsored by Nancy and Alton Eckert.

After the performance, the Danbury Concert Chorus will begin rehearsals for its annual concert of Handel’s "Messiah."

Singers in the area who are interested in joining the "Messiah" should contact Danbury Music Centre for more information: at 203-748-1716, dmc@danburymusiccentre.org, or danburymusiccentre.org.

Founded in 1935, the Danbury Concert Chorus is a non-auditioned chorus that rehearses weekly at Danbury Music Centre. Each season the chorus performs at least three concerts in the Danbury area.

Sunday's concert will begin at 3 p.m. First Congregational Church is located at 164 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury.
