WalletHub compiled data from 37 different metrics and broke it down into five key categories:

  • Personal and residential safety;
  • Financial safety;
  • Road safety;
  • Workplace safety;
  • Emergency preparedness

The Nutmeg State was buoyed by its second overall ranking in Personal and residential safety. The high ranking was due in large part to low figures in assaults per capita, sex offenders per capita, incidents of bullying.

Vermont, Maine, Massachusets, Minnesota and New Hampshire made up the top five.

Neighboring New York was ranked 13th overall.
