The Scoop: The old-fashioned down on the farm charm seems to make the ice cream taste better here. All ice cream is made fresh daily with many of the flavors created from handed down family recipes. The fact that it's still a family-run operation (five generations!) makes it that much more enjoyable -- and a long held Connecticut favorite. For some, it's just not summer without a visit to Ferris Acres.
Ice cream comes in soft-serve or regular with a repertoire of more than 80 flavors and a host of toppings. Among the notable flavors: Cookie Jar: (vanilla with fudge swirls, mini chocolate chips and chocolate chip cookies), Camp Fire (vanilla with graham crackers, fudge swirls, and marshmallows), and Paradise Found (coconut ice cream with fudge swirls and almonds).
They also offer dozens of special sundaes, with over 75 candy, fruit and nut toppings. And you can get the 2.5-gallon tubs to go.
