New Canaan's Harry Connick Jr. To Leverage Charm, Talent On Own Talk Show

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Music may be the central theme of New Canaan’s Harry Connick, Jr.’s upcoming television venture, but it’s his rep as a raconteur and Southern charmer that will likely tie it all together.

New Canaan's own Harry Connick, Jr., a singer, composer and actor, is launching his own television talk-variety show in September.

“Harry,” a syndicated talk-variety show, is set to premiere on Monday, Sept. 12, on Fox stations. (Check your local listings for times.)

It is being produced by Justin and Eric Stangel, two brothers who were the head writers and executive producers of “Late Show with David Letterman,” where the talkative and funny Connick was a favorite guest.

According to Variety, the singer/composer and the Stangels will share executive producer credit.

The show’s purported goal is to bring a late night vibe to daytime television and its ads gleefully invite viewers to “Join the Party!”

The family friendly show will draw on the Grammy and Emmy winner’s wide range of talents, from singing to acting to hosting.

According to foxla.com, it will be a medley of live performances, parodies, man on the street interviews, stunts and audience participation.

As an actor, the New Orleans native has impressed on stage and both the big and small screens.

He received Tony nominations as the composer/lyricist for the musical “Thou Shalt Not,” and as the lead actor in the award-winning revival of “The Pajama Game.”

He also adapted “The Happy Elf” for children’s theater and starred in the Broadway revival of “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.”

Connick is also known, foxla.com said, for his turns in movies such as “Independence Day” and “Hope Floats.”

He was on the NBC sitcom “Will & Grace” from 2002-06. And he was a judge on "American Idol" for three seasons.

After dipping a toe or two in the voice-over pool, Connick's mellifluous tones could be heard in film's such as “The Iron Giant,” foxla.com’s story said.

Connick's latest album, “That Would Be Me,” was released this past October.

He has been married for more than 25 years to actress and former Victoria’s Secret model Jill Goodacre. The couple, who live in a $5.6 million mansion on West Road in New Canaan, have three daughters: Georgia Tatum, Sarah Kate and Charlotte.
