Calendar Celebrates Artists With Disabilities At Trumbull's Kennedy Center

TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A new calendar put together by a Trumbull nonprofit features artwork from a baker’s dozen of artists with disabilities.

Bridgeport artist Cloresa Francoeur's "Frost Flowers" is featured in the 2017 Kennedy Center calendar. The original artwork, and others from Kennedy Center folks, is on display in Bridgeport until the end of December.

The 13 works, and paintings from about 50 other participants in the Kennedy Center’s expressive art program, are now on display at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center in Bridgeport.

The show, titled “A Unique Perspective,” will stay up until the end of December. It is free and open to the public.

The Kennedy Center is a rehabilitation agency that supports more than 2,400 children and adults with therapeutic, social and recreational programs.

It has been putting out the calendar around the holidays for more than 30 years.

Funding for the project initially came from People’s United Bank and now is allocated through the People’s United Community Foundation.

Armando Goncalves, of People’s United Bank, praised the calendar, saying it “uniquely demonstrates the remarkable abilities of the participants at The Kennedy Center."

The featured artworks’ themes range from the abstract to realistic still lifes and the mediums used include textiles, yarns, inks, colored pencils and watercolors.

The calendar was designed by freelance artist Meghan, a former Connecticut resident who now lives in Texas. It was printed by GHP Media in West Haven.

The “Unique Perspective” calendar artists, their hometowns and the titles of their works are:

  • January: Laura Gardner (Bridgeport), “Cah-urls."
