The Mausk High School sophomore needs an alert dog that can help her battle her Type 1 Diabetes by detecting fluctuations in her blood sugar.
Right now, Collis checks her blood sugar 8-10 times a day and has to wear an insulin pump. She also must inject herself with insulin after every time she eats.
Even with all of this, it can be difficult for Collis to detect when her blood sugar shoots too high or drops too low. Either event can be equally dangerous.
A specially trained service dog would help Collis and her family detect blood sugar swings 20-45 minutes before they happen.
The Collis family is looking to raise $25,000 for Kimberly's dog in the hopes she'll be able to participate in more physical activities.
