NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Ralph McIntosh Jr. of Newtown is being honored as a Small Business Hero by the United Way of Western Connecticut.

McIntosh has been president of Del-Tron Precision Inc. since 1990. Del-Tron is a family-owned business started in a barn on Stevens Street in Danbury in 1974 by his father, Ralph McIntosh, Sr.

Ralph Jr. joined the business as vice president in 1978. Since then, thousands of Del-Tron slides have been incorporated into automated equipment throughout the world. Today, Del-Tron employs 43 people at its corporate offices located in Bethel, as well as numerous distributors throughout the continental United States, Germany and Singapore. A total of 20 of the Bethel employees have worked for the company for more than 25 years.

McIntosh is a community leader who supports numerous philanthropic and business organizations, including the Savings Bank of Danbury, the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce and the Previdi Award Committee, and the Western CT Health Network Corporate Advisory Committee.

He also serves on the Northern Fairfield Community Council and Resource Development Committee for United Way. He serves as the chairman of the Greater Danbury Half Marathon, 5K and Union Savings Bank Kid’s Race to benefit the Danbury War Memorial and Team Red, White and Blue which supports athletic interactions for veterans throughout the country.

He enjoys golf, was an avid runner, and now an avid biker and loves to fish the beaches of Cape Cod. He and his wife Donna have three grown children, four grandchildren and live in Newtown.

The United Way of Western Connecticut will honor McIntosh at its third annual Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury on Saturday, Feb. 27.

The honorees have all distinguished themselves through philanthropy and volunteerism.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Sonia Manzano, author and actress who inspired, educated, and delighted children and families as "Maria" on "Sesame Street" for more than 30 years.

A first generation American of Latino descent, Sonia’s story is one of perseverance and courage as she overcame countless obstacles to become one of the most influential Latinas in television.

The event will include dinner and dancing, as well as silent and live auctions. The evening will be emceed by NFL stadium announcer, John Heffernan. Proceeds will benefit UWWC’s work in support of ALICE families throughout Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield Counties.
