NEWTOWN, Conn. – It was cold Friday night, but that didn’t stop the larger-than-usual crowd from gathering around two beautifully decorated trees at Ram Pasture in Newtown.
The Newtown Chamber of Commerce, Newtown Parks & Recreation, People’s United Bank, Union Savings Bank, Newtown Hardware, and Curtis Packaging sponsored the tree lighting this year.
At about 6:30 p.m., members of the Lathrop School of Dance Senior Dance team, the Newtown High School a cappella all-male singing group the XY Chromotones, and the Newtown High School Concert Choir performed for the crowd.
Diana Johnson of Newtown’s Chamber of Commerce said that the tree lighting ceremony has been a success over the past 31 years.
It started off with a single small tree tree and a small committee, and over the years, the committee — and the tree — have grown.
At 7 p.m., the lights on the tree were brought to life by Jen Landgrebe, director of account managing at Curtis Packaging.
Candles were set up along the pathways at the Ram Pasture for safety by a local Boy Scout troop.
