NEWTOWN, Conn. -- Families who lost loved ones during the Sandy Hook shooting, including Mark Barden, who lost his 7-year-old son Daniel, are praising the Mental Health Reform Act that cleared a key congressional committee last week, according to the Hartford Courant.

Barden, along with U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., one of the bill's main sponsors, and Bill Sherlach, who's wife, Mary Sherlach, also was killed, praised the mental health legislation that proposes major changes to the way mental health care is provided in the country, said the Hartford Courant.

The bill's provisions include providing grants to encourage early intervention for children, requiring insurance companies to cover mental health the same as physical health, providing parents with easier access to their adult children's treatment, and several other measures, added the Hartford Courant
