At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, among the most highly affected areas: 3,614 are without power in Stamford, 1,929 in New Canaan and 344 in Wilton, according to Eversource.

The storms came as a cold front moved through the area that will bring a relief from the heat.

The widely scattered storm activity will wrap up by around midnight.

Friday will be comfortable and much cooler with a high temperature in the low-70s under mostly cloudy skies. There will be a chance of rain throughout the day into the early evening.
