All hands are on deck in Brookfield, as crews continue recovery efforts in the city following a storm that felled trees and downed utility lines throughout the region.

On Wednesday, Brookfield officials announced that public works and public safety crews worked diligently throughout the night until approximately 3 a.m. as the region continues to dig out from Tuesday’s storm.

Overnight, police worked with Eversource, the Department of Public Works and first responders to clear paths for emergency vehicles and to clear roadways to begin house wellbeing checks, as well as “gain an overall view of the extent of the damages.”

The Still River Greenway will be closed until further notice, police noted.

According to police, more than 160 emergency personnel from over 20 different agencies assisted in operations. As of 6 a.m. new crews arrived to continue recovery efforts in the area, with an assist from nearby municipalities. Crews from Massachusetts and New Hampshire are also on their way and will be put to work as soon as they arrive.

As of 1:30 p.m., 82,935 of Eversource’s 1,270,056 customers in Connecticut remain without power. Brookfield High School was opened as an emergency shelter for residents in need of charging electronic devices or showering.

“After life safety, opening all road is our priority. After access to all roads has been gained, cruise will work to restore power,” police officials said. “Please understand that we expect this to be a multi-day event. We are in the process of opening a shelter in town for showers, electricity needs and things of that nature.”
