Troopers stopped Westbrook resident Austin Rinehart on Route 9 at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 in Chester when he was spotted by patrol driving erratically on the roadway.

Police said that during the subsequent traffic stop, it was determined that the 28-year-old was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety tests administered by troopers, leading to his arrest.

Further investigation into Rinehart determined that he was also in possession of heroin.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a narcotic substance and possession with intent to sell. He was also cited for failure to maintain his lane while driving.

Rinehart has since been released on bond and is due back in Middletown Superior Court at a later date to answer the charges.
