Easton Police: Man Found Shoeless After Crash Charged With Drunk Driving

EASTON, Conn. — A Westport man found shoeless outside of his vehicle after a Jan. 15 accident that blew out all the windows from his vehicle in a violent accident was charged with operating under the influence, Easton Police said Wednesday.

Steven A. Anastasia, 33, of 67 Hales Court, wa charged with operating under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive right. He was arrested Tuesday on a court-ordered arrest warrant.

He couldn't post the $5,000 bond and was held for an appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Anastasia was southbound on Black Rock Turnpike when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, ran into a Frontier Communications utility pole,, snapping it in two, police said. The vehicle then went back onto the roadway before stopping sideways in the northbound lane, police said.

All of the windows were blown out, and all airbags had deployed, police said. When officers arrived, Anastasia was found shoeless and with a cut to the back of his head, police said. The odor of alcohol was detected, police said, and Anastasia told officers he had had a few beers.
