Fernando " Sosa" Rodriguez, 27, of Danbury, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers with the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad received a tip that he would be making a drop in the area on Wardwell Street, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

Agents set-up on the location and nabbed Rodriguez when he pulled in a black Jeep SUV, drawing their weapons when he reached into the front of his pants, Conklin added.

After Rodriguez was on the ground and handcuffed, Conklin said officers searched the vehicle and Rodrigeuz and uncovered $758 in cash in his front right pocket, and inside a backpack, found two tied plastic baggies with 30 grams of cocaine inside, as well as 120 grams of cocaine.

Officers then brought in K-9 Pyro who led them to a secret compartment behind the glove box where officers found more cocaine and a sliver and black Ruger 9 mm semiautomatic pistol with nine rounds of ammunition next to it, Conklin said.

Conklin said Rodriguez was a convicted felon and had a previous weapons charge out of Danbury.

When asked why he had the gun, Rodriguez, who told them he worked as an Uber driver, said he carried it after being shot three times in Waterbury, Conklin added.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a weapon in a vehicle and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Police asked for $150,000 bond, which was increased to $250,000 by a judge after learning of the previous gun charges.
