Maria Mendoza-Robles, 54, was struck around 8 p.m. Thursday while attempting to walk across busy southbound Route 8 near Exit 5 in Bridgeport, said Connecticut State Police.
Original reports said Mendoza-Robles was hit by an unknown tri-axle dump truck with a red or orange cab, police said. Later, through an investigation, police found that the truck involved in the hit-and-run incident was a blue Peterbilt dump truck.
“Although initially, witnesses described a dump truck in the area as having a red or orange cab and a silver or gray dump bed, the subsequent investigation identified the vehicle as a blue Peterbilt dump truck, as being the involved vehicle,” according to an updated accident report.
“A person of interest has been identified as a possible operator of the vehicle," the report added.
Although police did not name the "possible operator," the accident report said the truck is owned by Newtown Electric on Huntingtown Road, in Newtown.
Police had the vehicle towed to Hilarios in Danbury and the report said the vehicle does have driver's side front-end damage.
The case remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the truck is asked to call State Police Troop G at 203-696-2500.
