STAMFORD, Conn. — In a month of highly televised Democratic and Republican conventions, Dr. Jill Stein hopes to paint Stamford — and the country — green.

Stein, presumptive presidential nominee for the Green Party, is scheduled to appear in Stamford on Thursday for a rally. She plans to make a 6 p.m. appearance at the Stamford Innovation Center, which is located at Main and Atlantic streets.

Connecticut Green Party Co-Chair Mike DeRosa said the event is “a wonderful opportunity for voters here in Connecticut to hear her message.” He said the Green Party believes that voters need more choices beyond the traditional two-party candidates -- someone like Jill Stein.

"Our view is we need more voices and more choices in the political system,” DeRosa said.

DeRosa said many voters are dissatisfied with Republican candidate Donald Trump and presumptive Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and are looking for a different kind of candidate.

“A large number of people are very dissatisfied with the two choices that are being given to them,” DeRosa said. “It’s sort of the choices they’re getting are like McDonalds and Burger King. They’re looking for something a little different."

The campaign said Stein, who is also making a stop in New London, is appearing in Stamford for a high-energy rally to build enthusiasm for the ballot petition drive to get her placed on the November ballot in Connecticut.

Stein’s appearance comes four days before the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia — and at the end of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. She plans to march in the March for Our Lives demonstration and hold a Power to the People Rally outside the Democratic convention.

Stein, a practicing physician, first ran for public office as a gubernatorial candidate in Massachusetts against Mitt Romney in 2002.

Stein, who was also the Green Party’s candidate for president in 2012, “holds the current record for most votes ever received by a woman candidate for president of the United States in the general election,” according to her campaign.

Fairfield County has hosted rallies for three presidential candidates this 2016 election season. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton held rallies in Bridgeport. And GOP hopeful John Kasich held a rally just over the city line in Fairfield.
