Newtown Schools Set The Stage For International Education Week

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The Newtown International Center for Education invites residents and parents to visit Newtown Public Schools during International Education Week to take part in the learning and fun experience.

During the week, from , Nov. 16­ to Nov. 20, students will celebrate international cultures with music and dance, international clothing and sports jerseys, acts of kindness, art projects, and international foods at lunchtime.

Participation in the following schedule for the week is confirmed at Newtown Middle School (grades 7­-8), Reed Intermediate School (grades 5-­6), Hawley Elementary School, Middle Gate Elementary School and Head of Meadow Elementary School.

The schedule of events includes:

  • Monday:​ International Culture Day (movie, music and dance) Tuesday:​I nternational Heritage Day (ethnic clothes or international sport jerseys)
  • Wednesday:​ Language Appreciation Day (learn how to say hello in five languages)
  • Thursday:​ International Kindness Day (act of kindness locally and think globally)
  • Friday:​ International Arts/Music Day (listen to international music and/or work on an international art project)

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

It is an opportunity for schools, colleges, businesses, associations and community organizations to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

The Newtown International Center for Education is a nationally recognized not­-for-­profit program initiated by the Newtown Public Schools. The center is leading the way with a forward­-looking approach to international education and preparedness at the K­12 level. Our programs offer student learning through real­ world experiences, professional development for educators, international exchange for students and educators, community learning opportunities and events for citizens.
