Snow's Over: Freezing Temps And High Winds To Hit Newtown This Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The snowstorm that dropped as much as 13 inches of snow on parts of Fairfield County may be over, but a wind chill advisory remains in effect for the area through Saturday morning.

The advisory lasts through 10 a.m. Saturday. Very cold wind chills are expected that could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes, according to the National Weather Service. Wind chills could range from 15 to 20 below zero at times. Wind gusts around 45 mph could result in blowing and drifting snow, as well as property damage and isolated power outages.

There will be areas of blowing snow on Friday, which is expected to be mostly sunny and cold. The high will be near 12, with wind chill values between negative 10 and negative 20 during the day. The wind will blow west between 20 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.

Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around zero. Wind chill values will be between negative 10 and negative 15. Gusts will reach 32 mph.

It will be mostly sunny and cold on Saturday, when the high will be near 9. The wind chill values will be between negative 10 and negative 20 during the day. It will be breezy, with winds blowing northwest between 14 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. 

Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low around negative 4 and wind chill values between negative 10 and negative 15. Winds will die down a bit to 8 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 24 mph.

Sunday is expected to be sunny and cold, warming up to a high near 17. There will be a northwest wind of around 5 to 7 mph. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 10.

There is a chance of snow returning to the area of Monday after 1 p.m., as well as sleet. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Snow and sleet is likely on Monday night, when the chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Otherwise Monday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
